When it’s time for a new sofa, it’s easy to get so caught up in the excitement of something wonderful and new that you overlook a few common red flags. Whether you’re sofa shopping here in Reno-Tahoe, or anywhere else, The Find is sharing a few tips to help you avoid all-too-common mistakes.

You Go Way Too Big (Or Way Too Small)

the-find-reno-sofa-shoppingThis is probably the most typical mistake – we don’t measure the space (or the sofa) first! It’s surprisingly difficult to judge a sofa’s size when it’s at the store. That’s especially true at The Find in Reno, thanks to our enormous space and soaring ceilings. A sofa that looks like it’s the perfect size in our space may be far too big when you get it home. Save yourself the headache and measure your space before you hit the stores. Then take measurements of sofas you like so that you can get an idea of how it’ll fit in your home.

Keep an eye on scale as well. A delicate sofa may just seem too small if the rest of your furniture is sprawling and oversized.

You Didn’t Test It Out

And we don’t just mean sitting down. When you test out a potential sofa, you should be looking for a few things. Just as you’re considering size and scale, you need to consider how it suits you and your lifestyle. If you love cuddly sofas where you can watch movies and nap, don’t buy one that’s too firm or with arms that are too high. If you’re tall, make sure the seat height is comfortable. Bad knees? Don’t get a sofa that’s so deep you have trouble getting up!

Think about your lifestyle, too. If your home is full of kids and pets, delicate upholstery and light colors may be a headache in the making. If that’s the case, check out the Revolution fabric we offer on the many sofa styles at The Find.

You Got Stuck on the Wrong Style

We aren’t telling you that furniture sets are the way to go, but it can be jarring if everything in a space has a certain style – except for one (big) piece. If you have trouble pairing or even just defining aesthetics, we’re here to help. The Find offers free design consultations, and we’ll be happy to steer you in the right direction.

It’s one of those “you get what you pay for” scenarios. Opt for the cheapest sofa you can find today, and you’ll be replacing it in a few years. Spring on something a little higher quality, and you’ll actually save money over the long run. Poor quality sofas will lose shape, looks and comfort fast, and you could be stuck with something unsteady or wobbly.

If you’re ready for a new sofa, measure your space and get going! Come to The Find on Longley Lane Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 10 and 6 pm to browse our selection of stylish and beautiful sofas. And if you don’t see what you’re looking for, just ask! We have access to so much more than we’re able to keep in stock.
