This warm weather has us thinking summer! Warm nights on the patio, fire pits, gentle breezes, the whole nine yards. It works out nicely, because our new line of outdoor furniture – a first for The Find! – is expected in the showroom shortly. And we can’t wait.

Today, we’re sharing a few tips for making the most of your outdoor space, no matter the size. It should be welcoming and stylish, of course, but it also needs to be functional. We’ve shared ideas for making that happen inside the house, and now we’re taking our advice outside.

  • Create a Focal Point

Inside, it may be your fireplace or an incredible piece of artwork that works as a focal point – it’s a place to catch the eye, with the rest of your furnishings and décor working in a supporting role. Apply the same logic to your outdoor space as well. You can work around a water feature, a beautiful outdoor table, a spectacular view, whatever you have to play up.

  • Direct Traffic

From hardscapes with designed walkways to something a little less formal, it’s important to make your outdoor space work well with established traffic patterns. Use potted plants and planters to establish boundaries and arrange furniture to encourage cozy conversation or take full advantage if you’re lucky enough to have a spectacular view.

  • Add Fire!

Fireplaces are cozy spots to settle in, and the association works no matter if it’s inside or out. If you have the resources, go big with a built-in fireplace – it’s the kind of investment that will add equity to your home. If you’re working on a budget, research fire pits, which are more affordable and offer more flexibility in terms of layout.

  • A Seat for Everyone

Offer a variety of seating options in your outdoor space. Don’t get too hung up on matching everything, either. A mix of benches, chairs, stools if you have an outdoor bar, will bring a fun, casual vibe to your space. Just remember to factor for flow of traffic to avoid cluttering things up.

  • Play up the Visuals

Use small containers and pots for beautiful flowers and succulents, and add instant appeal to your tabletops. Go a little larger for pots arranged on the ground, and look for pieces that can add appeal to your walls, as well.
